Knox County is home to more than 80,000 seniors who are 60 years and older. The population of adults over the age of 80 has grown 34 percent over the last 10 years.
The Mobile Meals program provides one meal five days a week to Knoxville and Knox County residents who are at least 60 years old, who cannot cook for themselves, and who have no one to prepare meals for them. More than 60 percent of Mobile Meals recipients are over 75 years of age with many in their 80s and 90s. Most live alone with no one to help care for them.
With the help of volunteers and people like you, Mobile Meals can provide a hot noon meal five days a week to a Knoxville or Knox County Senior in need. Hot meals are even delivered by volunteers on both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The cost of producing and delivering these much needed meals is going up continuously, but it is still possible for you to help defray the cost for providing a meal to a senior for a very small donation. $3.40 will provide a meal for a senior. That is less than the cost of a cup of premium coffee, and you will provide a hot meal delivered by a friendly face to a Knoxville or Knox County senior.
