For 50 years, the Knoxville-Knox County CAC Office on Aging has offered a wide variety of services aimed at improving... the quality of life for seniors, such as helping seniors access benefits and life saving services. CAC has consistently promoted the coordination of services and working together with partners to create a network of opportunities. Check out https://www.knoxseniors.org/ for a listing of programs!

As the need arises, CAC looks for ways to find solutions. Our Grandparents as Parents (GAP) program is one example of CAC's innovative work. Check out this 1 min video: https://youtu.be/CTWxncgsOGw

The GAP Program was one of the first in Tennessee to recognize the caregiver’s need ...for information, support, and resources. By “parenting again,” grandparents and relative caregivers keep families together, provide safe homes, and avoid foster home placement of the children. This year, the GAP program was also recognized in the GrandFamilies: The Contemporary Journal of Research, Practice and Policy:

Community Action Partnership National Office

It is with deep sadness that we announce that after 30+ years of continuous service to Knoxville, and the East Tennessee region, CAC AmeriCorps has had our funding abruptly discontinued for both our AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps State/National programs.

CAC AmeriCorps received notices ...from the AmeriCorps agency that our grant awards were being terminated because it has been determined that our awards "no longer effectuate agency priorities." Priorities that have been supported on a bi-partisan basis since the creation of AmeriCorps in 1994.

All 52 of our current, full-time, members will have their service discontinued, effective immediately, and our 30+ community partners, and the people they serve, will now cease to receive the meaningful contributions of these talented servant leaders.
CAC is committed to working with our community and partners to mitigate for the adverse impacts of these actions. We will continue to be available in the coming weeks as we work to perform the administrative tasks necessary to support our members in their transitions.
