This position provides maintenance and upkeep of CAC facilities and grounds. Performs general maintenance including but not limited to replacing light bulbs, air filters, and ceiling tiles; removing litter and maintaining steps and walks; cleaning and organizing garage bay. Performs minor remodeling and repair work. Assist with set up for meetings and minor office furniture assembly and organizing. Assists or substitutes for custodial staff as needed. Serve as courier as needed. Will train to complete home inspections: admin docs such as work write-ups, cost estimates, correspondence, and working docs such as specifications, scale drawings, change orders in accordance with funding source standards using various computer equipment and software programs.
Qualifications: Must be detail oriented, in good physical condition, with excellent prior work record. Must have at least one year’s experience performing general custodial duties. Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license and good driving record. As needed, be available to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Job Title: Building Maintenance Specialist
Summary: An employee in this classification works under general supervision of the Housing and Energy Services Director and receives oversight from the Assistant Director of Construction and Facilities Management. This position has responsibility for the general maintenance and upkeep of CAC facilities and grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs general maintenance including but not limited to replacing light bulbs, air filters, and ceiling tiles
- Performs minor remodeling and repair work at CAC facilities
- Satisfies CAC facility work orders when directed
- Monitors vending machines to ensure they are in good working order and properly stocked, and takes deposits to Central Office
- Cleans and organizes Housing & Energy Services Department garage bay
- Assists custodial crew when directed including but not limited to: disinfecting restroom sinks, commodes, stalls, and floors; ensuring soap, paper towel, and toilet tissue containers are properly stocked; straightening and dusting lobby, offices, classrooms, and activity areas; Straightens and dusts lobby, offices, classrooms, and activity areas
- Remove litter from grounds and parking areas and maintain steps and walks
- Assists with room set-up for meetings and facility set up for events
- Assists with minor office furniture assembly and organizing as directed
- Couriers paperwork, packages and supplies between departments as directed
- Assists with routine vehicle maintenance; transporting vehicles to auto mechanics as needed
- Picks up supplies for construction staff and facilities as directed
- May substitute for custodial staff when needed
- Interest and Ability to learn and become a proficient home inspector
- Participate in home inspection training, including administrative tasks: work write-ups, cost estimates, correspondence, and working documents including specifications, scale drawings, change orders in accordance with funding source standards using various computer equipment and software programs
- Perform other duties as directed
Knowledge and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Ability to follow instructions
- Must be physically able to perform a variety of custodial duties
- Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 100 pounds
- Ability to climb a 14’ ladder and work at heights to replace bulbs and filters
- Knowledge about the safe use and care of equipment and tools to include vacuum, buffer, shampooer, mop, broom, and a variety of power and hand-held repair tools
- Knowledge about the use and storage of cleansing and disinfecting agents, fuels, paint, and other toxic agents
- Knowledge of floor and carpet maintenance
- Ability to work without close supervision
- Ability to work well with supervisors, co-workers, and the public
- Dependability and an excellent time and attendance record are essential
