Work includes loading and unloading vehicles. This position provides front-line customer service with clients, organizations, volunteers and provides follow-up to staff, clients and volunteers. Cross-trained in multiple food distribution and delivery jobs. Needs proficient computer skills. Position may assist with data entry. Aids with inventory management, including communicating new products, and assisting with inventory reports. Position requires accurate completion of paperwork and attention to detail regarding meal counts, checking food items, and reporting changes/errors. 

Base Qualifications: Must have high school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience. Driving required in all aspects of this job. Proficient computer and smart phone skills. Able to work with limited supervision; attentive to detail. 

Preferred Qualifications: Post-secondary education classes or Associate’s degree. Previous truck driving experience. Work experience with the elderly, other vulnerable populations, or volunteers. Customer Service experience.

Salary: $35,752 ($17.19 hourly) depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits including employer paid health insurance, life insurance, contributions to pension plan, co-pay dental insurance, vacation days, sick leave, and generous holidays.

Job Title: Nutrition Distribution Specialist

Summary: An employee in this class often works with general supervision from the Food Distribution Manager and Nutrition Services Director. Work is performed on full-time basis with benefits (8 hours a day). Work includes packing, delivery and direct service of meals and food distribution items to clients. This position provides front-line customer service with clients, organizations, volunteers and provides follow-up to staff, clients and volunteers and is cross-trained in food distribution, delivery jobs with proficient computer skills. Position may assist with data entry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drives official food distribution vehicles and delivers requested meals and food supplies to community partners and clients.
  • Loading and unloading vehicles, up to three hours a day.
  • Reports any vehicle defects, responsible for fueling as needed.
  • Cross-trained to serve in multiple food distribution roles and trained to complete required documents of federally regulated programs. Provides direct provision of food service and clean up, including deliveries from mobile meal kitchen to partners or covering routes.
  • Pack food items for distribution by staff or volunteers.
  • Follow meal order to adjust the count based on reservations and cancellations. Communicate all changes to nutrition staff in a timely manner.
  • Count and check all relevant food items before leaving the distribution point or upon receipt to ensure accurate food distribution and service.
  • When required, dispose of or return food items for proper record keeping.
  • Manages volunteer packing for commodity distribution program.
  • Aids with inventory management, including communicating new products, and assisting with inventory reports.
  • Maintains work area cleanliness and completes cleaning assignments as assigned.
  • Facilitates distribution of holiday/emergency meals and food supplies.
  • Completes and submits all required paperwork necessary for accurate client records.
  • Communicate and interact with Nutrition staff as needed on all issues, especially as they relate to food acceptability, partner relations and client satisfaction completing all required reports and logs.
  • Greets and assists clients in filling out required applications.
  • Completes forms in a legible manner.
  • Asissts with client intake and data entry during Empty Stocking.
  • Collects client contributions when applicable. Follows CAC procedures when handling contributions.
  • When errors occur, make the necessary correction and report to supervisor.
  • Communicates and interacts with staff at the food distribution location to ensure a positive relationship with the management at each food distribution location.
  • Respond appropriately to any volunteer, client crisis or emergency. Relays information to the proper supervisor or authorities as instructed.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather.
  • Professionally represents Nutrition Services in community.
  • Perform other duties as required by supervisor.

Knowledge and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to serve or distribute food sources and meals to all program participants according to established rules and guidelines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance; physical exam required (paid by CAC)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form.
  • Ability to obtain facts by personal contact and observation, reporting them as instructed.
  • Must be dependable and mature with a pleasant personality and professional appearance. Ability to adhere to established guidelines and procedures and have good prior work record.
  • Must have excellent time and attendance.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Valid TN Driver’s License required with possible use of a reliable personal vehicle. Mileage reimbursed. Other certifications may be required for certain CAC vehicles.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Must have proficient computer, tablet and smart-phone skills.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately enter data.
  • Good driving record with no major at fault incidents in the past five years.
  • Must have knowledge of Knox County and ability to read maps.
