A front-line customer service position requiring a variety of skills including reception, information and referral, familiarity with community resources, intake and assessment, and data entry.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in social work, human services, adult education or related field. An equivalent combination of related work experience and/or education may be substituted for the education requirement. Must have experience in data entry, reception, customer service, a good prior work record, familiarity with computers, ability to type at least 40 wpm and demonstrated skill in data entry and management. Must be able to relate to and communicate with clients and staff of service-providing programs.

Salary: $33,199 ($15.97 per hour), with excellent benefits including employer paid health insurance, life insurance, contributions to pension plan, co-pay dental insurance, vacation days, sick leave days and generous holidays.

Job Title: Client Services Specialist- West Neighborhood Center

Summary: An employee in this classification receives direct supervision from the unit director. This is a front line position requiring a variety of skills including reception, information and referral, intake and assessment, and information system maintenance. An individual in this position provides callers and walk-ins with information about unit programs and community resources, performs intake, assess client need directly and by phone, verifies eligibility for services, makes sound referrals to CAC programs and community resources, and performs data entry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interviews clients directly and by phone, assesses needs, and makes referrals as appropriate.
  • Responsible for providing basic and detailed information to callers and walk-ins about services available through CAC and other community resources.
  • Initiates the intake process by assisting applicants complete required forms.
  • Assists with the collection of client information and required documentation for program eligibility.
  • Assists with the verification of eligibility for various programs and services according to prescribed guidelines.
  • Using assessment information, make referrals to the appropriate CAC service, or other community resource.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other social service and public agencies, local partners, and others to help ensure the prompt delivery of services to clients.
  • May assist in maintaining client files, ensuring that they are complete and correct.
  • Responsible for ensuring that database information is complete, up to date, and accurate.
  • Utilize computer to access database and record activities as instructed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and directed by supervisor.

Knowledge and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty successfully. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Extensive knowledge of community resources available to households in need of financial assistance and social service supports.
  • Extensive knowledge of homeless prevention resources.
  • Knowledge of counseling and case management methods and skills.
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with common computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
  • Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observation, and the examination of records.
  • Ability to write accurate reports, business correspondence, and plans and procedures.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with efficiency and accuracy.
