Children who depend on reduced rate and free school lunch programs are often at-risk of hunger during the Summer months when there is little or no access to food. Households receiving assistance from food and nutrition programs do not see an increase in money for food during the Summer, so the financial need increases, placing children at higher risk of hunger.
The CAC Summer Food Service Program provides 3,126 meals to hungry children per day and operates 95 food and nutrition programs at 82 sites in Knoxville and Knox County.
