Knox County CAC Transit

Mission Statement: To increase access to community resources and services for Knoxville-Knox County residents who have no other means of transportation by providing safe, reasonably comfortable transportation.

Provides limited transportation to people of all ages within Knox County who have no other means to get to medical appointments, shopping, employment, and other essential services. Sliding scale fares. Furnishes transportation on contract for the Office on Aging, Senior Nutrition Program, O’Connor Senior Center, and other nonprofit agencies.

Priority Is Given To:

  • Dialysis and Cancer Therapy
  • Health Department Clinic and Other Medical Treatment
  • Therapy for Severe Arthritis, Post-stroke or Other Trauma
  • Grocery, Drug Store Shopping and Other Essential Errands
  • Contracts which Increase Access to Community Resources and Promote Coordinated Use of Vehicles.

PUBLIC AND CONTRACT TRANSPORTATION

Provides general public transportation to medical appointments, employment, and other essential services for Knox County residents who cannot access the services offered by Knoxville Area Transit (KAT). There is a sliding scale fee for services, but resources are limited. Contracts are negotiated to provide transportation for the Office on Aging, Senior Nutrition Program, O’Connor Senior Center, TennCare, Department of Human Services, and other nonprofit programs. Wheelchair-accessible transportation is available.

DEMAND RESPONSE TRANSPORTATION

Knox County CAC Transit provides demand response transportation services for Knox County residents outside the city limits and for Knoxville residents who have no other means of transportation. Transportation services are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Transportation services are limited by available funding.

JOB-RIDE TRANSPORTATION

Knox County CAC Transit provides employment related transportation services for Knox County residents and persons with disabilities who cannot use the Knoxville Area Transit. Transportation services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Employment trips provided to neighboring counties. Side trips for delivering children to daycare allowed. Transportation services are limited by available funding.
